White gold does not maintain it's color. It's plated in Rhodium which wears away and the ring has to be re-dipped on a regular basis to maintain the original color.
The other thing about white gold is that in the U.S. it usually contains nickle as an alloy. Many people have an allergic reaction to nickle. In Europe, it's against the law to use nickle as an alloy.
I don't know anything about Cobalt. I do know that Platinum is very pure and maintains it's color, though it does darken over time. It can be re-polished.

Our white gold wedding bands are 35+ years old, and they are the same color they have always been.
They have been cleaned, but never redipped.

That's great and there may be something different in the way yours were made. Some use Palladium as an alloy, which is supposed to result in a whiter metal.
But most white gold made in the U.S. will need to be re-dipped because without Rhodium, white gold isn't very white at all. I know a young bride whose beautiful white gold rings had the finish already wearing away before they'd even been married a year. It also depends on how thick the coating is in the first place.
I read that sometimes those hard metal are so hard, when a person gets into an accident that involves such rings, they just end up cutting the ring off. These kinds of rings are not prone to scratches, but it also can't be resized like the gold. Though, at its price point, I guess just get a new one.
