I have a friend who is getting married 4 hrs away and having a bachelor party the weekend before 4 hrs away. I really just want to go to the bachelor party and skip the wedding. Is this a bad thing to do?
Well, yeah, it is. But if you have a really good excuse for missing the wedding, and you send a nice gift anyway, you'll probably still remain friends.

You would need a REALLY good excuse, such as your brother getting married the same weekend as your friend's wedding.

Unless you have a more compelling reason than wanting to see strippers and get a few lap dances, yes, it's bad. If you must pick one event, go to the wedding. Buy a nice gift with the money you have saved by not having to tip the girls.

Seriously, the wedding is the more significant event. If you can only go to one, it's a pretty clear choice.
Depends on how you think your friend will feel about it. If nothing else, ask him which he would prefer you attend.
Last year, my husband went to a bachelor party and not the wedding (both were 5-6 hours away). No problem. We sent a card and a gift. You get more quality time with the groom at the BP than the wedding & reception anyway.
You could skip both. A friend local to me and a close friend had both his bachelor party and wedding out of town. I didn't want to go to either for a variety of reasons, all of which had validity. I explained my reasons and it didn't impact the friendship at all.
