Lakes of Laguna is a gated community in West Palm Beach, just off Military Trail, north of Okeechobee Blvd. I recently showed a client a home 4 Br, 3bath. home which he liked, but unfortunately he did not like having a HOA (home owners association). It's a nice, family oriented community. In the current real estate market homes in this community range from $145K to 275K. Some of these homes are Short Sales, meaning the owners mortage balance is more that the house is worth. This helps to push down the prices of homes in the surrounding community. A short sale can be a great opportunity for the right buyer, but can also be a frustrating process. It may be better to consider a home in the community that is not a short sale, in some cases for almost the same price & without the hassles. Best of luck in your search. Let me know if you need additional information.

It appears they also have ALOT of foreclosures in the community. I noticed as well in a Broward, Palm Beach, Martin & St. Lucie apartment finder for August/Sept 2010 there were rental ads for some of the communities within Lakes of Laguna. Villa Toscana at Lakes of Laguna and Portofino at Lakes of Laguna per the ad. So is it now a rental community because sales are not going great?

No. Villa Toscana at Lakes of Laguna and Portofino at Lakes of Laguna are apartments right next to Lakes of Laguna. They are entirely separate. Separate gate, hoa, board etc. Lakes of Laguna is only Single family homes.

Lakes of Laguna has some fantastic single family homes for sale but their HOA is a little crazy. Is part of your goal in buying there to rent it out or to live in it as a primary residence? If residence, go for it. If buying as an investment, RUN!!! The property management and HOA company makes it nearly impossible to rent out. I had a well qualified renter getting placed there and let's just say I vowed to never place another renter in there again.
