DH and I were looking at homes on realtor.com out of curiosity and were shocked to find out that these 1.25 acre homes in Jupiter Farms are relatively inexpensive ($275K???) We're seriously considering buying next year if the taxes aren't crazy (and so far, what we've seen advertised, they seem doable at $4-5K per year). We fell in love with what we saw, trees, sprawling lawns, rustic-looking homes (we'd both love farmland or as close as we can get to it). We also read that Jupiter Farms Elementary is a great school...

So for anyone who lives there or knows the community, is it an older community or is it just as good as Abacoa for young families. We have 2 young children, 4 and 18 months old, we're an interracial family, and wondered how welcoming this equestrian community would be. I know someone had already responded to one of my other posts that it tends to be insular, but how insular my DH asked? We don't want to move there, and people look at us agape (visions of someone walking into a saloon and everyone stopping mid-card/piano-playing/drinking come to mind)!

I wouldn't say the farms are as family friendly as Abacoa.
Are you aware the roads aren't paved? That tends to switch a lot of peoples views on the area. An acre and a quarter is a lot of maintenance as well if you are busy and on the go.
The Heights, just outside of Abacoa, are a little more affordable area. Houses aren't too large, but there is no HOA, and it's close to everything.

For some reason, DH is loving the idea of non-paved roads and a ride-on lawnmower. Are the HOA fees outrageous there? That's probably where the "catch" is because this looked like a dream-area for us....

Thanks for the info.

There are no HOA's in the Farms. That is the whole point of the farms, lots of land, no restrictions, live as you want to.
Palm Beach Country Estates are similar as well.

Thanks skylinet, that's great news. We are looking forward to checking it out and possibly buying a home there.

Yeah, definitely check it out, maybe rent a year if you can. It's a pretty interesting area.
