Looking to retire in Florida in the next 2 years and would like some good advice about Jupiter and Vero Beach. They both seem nice but haven't been to Jupiter yet and need some input on both cities thanks

I live in Jupiter. It is a quiet town with great beaches -- almost as quiet as Vero, but a lot more convenient to West Palm and Miami. We also have a great New Urbanist non-gated neighborhood (Abacoa) with traditional-style architecture (ranging from Caribbean to Mediterranean to New England) that includes a walkable town center (I can (and do) go out with friends from time to time completely on foot -- a rare treat in South Florida!). We also have a nice old light house, and are known in the West Palm area for our restaurants. We even have a college in town, and a small art museum (relocated in recent years from Palm Beach Island). We're also a short drive up Route 1 to Stuart, which has some museums (including a pretty big car museum) and a neat historic town center. We have some neat natural areas too. Hope that helps!

This is an easy one...JUPITER! My parents have lived in both Jupiter and Vero Beach, I've spent lots of time in both places and Jupiter is by far better in every way (close to other great cities, culture, shopping, home choices, fewer rednecks). The only advantage to Vero that I saw was that it's "quiet" and perhaps a little bit less congested, but Vero feels much more out in the country and that shows in the kind of people and amenities surrounding it (shooting range anyone?). For these reasons my parents actually moved BACK to their house in Jupiter that they had been renting while they tried out Vero beach for 2+ years. Anyway, check out both. If you've never been to Jupiter I think you'll be hooked. That's where I would like to wind up eventually.

Doyou prefer Jupiter to Boca and if so, why? I still like both areas but see Boca Raton having way more things to do for us and the kids. And doesn't Boca have more eateries, libraries, shops, parks and etc?

Boca is a lot larger than Jupiter, so it might have "more" in total numbers, but not necessarily in relation to total population. "More" also means more traffic and congestion, however.

BUT, Jupiter is right next door to Palm Beach Gardens, which has, IMO, the best indoor mall in the county (the Gardens Mall). There are also tons of restaurants in Jupiter and especially in Palm Beach Gardens.

It is probably a wash between the two areas.

Well said. BOTH AREAS are extremely nice. Jupiter looks much more quiet, spread out and less of a city feel. What do you think?

Yes, I would choose Jupiter over Boca any day. Boca is more pretentious, and as others have pointed out, more congested. Unless you have some need to be a very short distance to Miami, Jupiter is the best combination of reasonable housing costs and local amentities. The beaches are great, too, never crowded and no tourists. If you want to go to Orlando theme parks it's an easy 2 hour drive up the turnpike from Jupiter. I agree the Gardens Mall is one of the best I've been to in Florida, #2 on my list. Mall of Millenia in Orlando is still my #1.

I like Jupiter. Clean, quiet, and also accessible to many great restaurants and Palm Beach Gardens area. I think Jupiter real estate is bit higher than Vero - obviously for those reasons listed above.

Boca is extremely pretentious.
I've lived in Boca and the Jupiter/Palm Beach Gardens areas.
It's night and day as far as rude/arrogant people vs more down to earth types in the Gardens area.
It really depends on what you like.
The traffic and rude drivers in Boca will make you want to hide under your bed during season.
