Jobs in South Florida (Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens: apartment, to rent, insurance)

Hi Everyone!
my name is Rene, and I am new to this, I currently live in Raleigh NC.
I been considering to move to fl recently for personal reasons, I wanted to get your feedback on job opportunities in south Florida, I currently work in the customer service/Health care field, please let me know if you have any information on what area I will have a better chance of finding job, I know overall the economy is not in great shape, just wondering if it will be very difficult to get a job in south florida, any info will be greatly appreciated

Funny - I've been in South Florida for 17 years and want to move to Raleigh!
Keep in mind it's VERY expensive to live here (housing, groceries...).

Actually we just moved from NC (just south of Raleigh) to south Florida, and I haven't noticed that groceries are much more expensive, and we're buying a house that is about the same square footage in a similarly good school system for about what we sold our house for in NC. So I wouldn't say prices are all that different. I can't speak to the job situation, though. Hubby had a job offer that moved us down here, so no hunting necessary. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I know people with college degrees who are working at drug stores because they can't find a job. Depending on the area in FL I feel it is more then the area you are in. Even if you want to rent a place a 1 bedroom apartment I think average price is 1100.

The healthcare field is one of the strong, in demand industry in South Florida. I don't know what wage comparisons will be, but I do know NC has a high comparative tax burden. Home prices and taxes (but not insurance rates) have gone down for most homeowners in Florida, but rents are pretty steady.

DEFINITELY secure a job before moving here, however, as simply having a college degree (especially in something amorphous like liberal arts or English) is not going to guarantee a job in your chosen field.

Even if you don't have a job lined up, it's not the end of the world.

The unemployment situation isn't as bleak as some make it out to be. 9.2% sounds bad, but a ton of them are unemployed because they are unemployable. Go to Wal-Mart and look at the people around you. The way they look, the way they dress, the way they talk, the way they carry themselves, the tattoos on their necks, etc. Put yourself in the position of a business owner and ask yourself if you would hire those people.

That is one largely untalked about reason why we will probably see persistent high unemployment. There are just so many more people these days who don't even TRY to make themselves marketable to employers.

With that said, can you sell? The reason I ask is that there are call centers all over South Florida. Generally the only question they will ask you in a job interview is, "Can you fog a mirror?" so if you want one of those jobs, it's yours. If you sound good on the phone and you talk a halfway decent game, you can stack some solid cheese while you work on lining up a more permanent, "career" type job.

Just don't have it in your mind that you will end up like the "I just swipe my EBT" idiot on YouTube if you take the plunge and make the move, because if you have your wits about you, you won't.

There are a lot of new medical companies & projects in the Jupiter area. To start, I recommend setting up & saving a search on Monster.com.
If you find a job there, nearby towns to live include Jupiter, Tequesta, Juno Beach, Palm Beach Gardens & North Palm Beach, FL.

All that would make sense if not for the fact that just a few years ago the unemployment rate was much lower. These social changes you talk about just didn't rear their ugly head recently.

A few years ago it was such a job seeker's market that employers couldn't afford to be as picky. These people were getting hired not because they were anyone's first choice, but because companies needed warm bodies and all the good employees were already taken.

The market is a lot tighter now for job seekers, and many people of all ages, skill levels, and education levels have had to settle for worse jobs than what they are qualified for, but the only people that should be having trouble finding work period are those who were only employed during the "good times" due to excessive demand for workers.
