Looking to buy a condo or small home in Florida. Below is a description of my dream home in my dream town. Help me find it!!! I know we might not be able to find a place that hits everything, but hey - this is my dream town so I was having fun : ) Any ideas are welcome!!

This ideal town is on the water. In the residential areas, there are lots of scenic places where you can catch a glimpse of the serene bays and inlets. There are no cookie cutter homes or strip malls to be found. The downtown is modest in size but charming and full of color. There are unique restaurants, antique shops, locally run book stores and coffee shops. The general feel of the town is casual and approachable. It's safe. It feels like a mix of Costa Rica and Portland, OR. Farmers markets and walking/running trails are abound. We don't have to travel far to get to anything but still feel like we're in a small town, not a city. For fun, let's say the town has approx 30K people. Boating, beach and kayaking are all accessible. I live in a 3 bedroom bungalow on the water. I have a dock that stretches out into the peaceful calm water. Rocking chairs line the porch that looks out to the beautiful water in my back yard. My condo has lots of unique character and charm but with all the modern amenities. I'm away for the hustle and bustle of tourism, and I'm not in a community where everyone goes to retire. My home cost $250K.

Humor me - what is coming to mind?

Jensen Beach! Or Stuart, or anything in the Indian River area. But Jensen Beach sort of has a little bit of everything you mention. Although you're going to have a real tough time finding a house on the water with a dock at $250k anywhere :P Jensen Beach comes close, though.

S. Florida might not be the place for that. Sounds more like a small town in Maine or something. Delray Beach sounds sort of close to what you are describing. You wont be able to find anything for that price right on the ocean though. You will need to spend at least $1 million.

Maybe something in NE Florida... like the Ponte Vedra Beach area. The "250k" on the water is definitely doable for a condo (but watch out for condo fees), especially if you're OK with something on the intracoastal, as compared to the beach.

3 bedroom bungalows on the water? Maybe Jensen Beach/Stuart.... along Indian River Drive....? Those are more quaint towns.

Keywest is the first place that comes to mind to me, then Amelia Island/ Ferandina Beach. Also, parts of Jacksonville. But, the more I think of it, what your describing sounds more like Wilmington, DE or places in the Carolinas. Good luck.

Hey that's my dream too. You described it perfectly. Wow I think of St. Johns in Virgin Islands.
Florida is so commercial but there might be some smaller areas. I do love Delray but pricey. You just have to google and look.
