Hi Folks!

I am purchasing our first home (finally) in Royal Palm Beach next month. It's in the Saratoga Pines subdivision. It's an HOA, and yes, I know that some people hate HOAs with a burning passion. However, the HOA fees seem pretty reasonable. It provides a pool, play area, basketball courts, tennis courts and optional cable access as well. It backs up to a nature preserve and it is out of the way of any major roads.

Anyone familiar with this subdivision? Does anyone have any advice to offer?

Nothing wrong with a HOA is that's what you want. Aside from the fees and amenities, make sure you can live with the rest of the rules and regulations.

Get hold of a copy of the complete HOA regulations and read through them carefully. Look for picky things like not being able to leave your trash cans on the curb for more than four hours, not being able to put a flower pot on your front stoop, being able to keep only a tiny dog, etc. It can go on and on, depending on the HOA.

If this type of stuff would bother you after a while then walk away now. If you have a good tolerance for rules, then proceed. It all depends on your comfort level. Don't be one of those people who buys into a HOA, then complains miserably when they get fined for doing something against the rules or feels the rules should not apply to them.

Very wise words. My thinking was exactly the same. The bylaws sometime reads like an air conditioner instruction manual, but I read through it. Seems pretty decent, nothing unreasonable.
