Currently living in NYC and interviewing for a job in Boca Raton close to the train.

Any affordable and safe places to live walking distance to the train? I am willing to live anywhere between Miami and Boca where the train runs. I like the idea of taking the train to work and not "needing" a car everyday.

You really need a car down here.

Train is relatively near the coastline. (Give or take 5-8 miles ion most areas that I know) Florida is known for hurricanes and tropical storms. Train may not run. How will you evacuate without a car? By bike? Seriously, in a state that has these issues, you need a car.

I took Tri-Rail for four months with my last job and LOVED it! If I stayed at that job, I was gonna buy a street-legal golf cart to get there. In east Boca, I wouldn't need a car if I had a golf cart for the train and groceries. When was the last time we evacuated?

Where did you live that you were able to walk to Tri-Rail?

I couldn't walk, that's why I would have needed a golf cart in the long run. I did walk home once, but it was a schlepp.

A friend takes the train to work every day and has a bike in a locker at his destination. That may be another option.

This looks promising:

The eight-story, 200-unit apartment building at Boca Village Corporate Centre is considered within walking distance of the Boca Raton Tri Rail Station at 680 Yamato Road, the Sentinel said.

I wouldn't consider any of the neighborhoods in walking distance to Tri-Rail safe or valued for resale. This is not NYC you definitely need a car or bike. So that brings up a point, depending on your job location in Boca and your price, you could probably bike to work.
