Has anyone moved here from the DC (VA, MD) area and how do you like it? Why did you choose to move and if you moved without a job, how easy was it to land one?

We're in DC right now renting, because we cannot afford a place reasonable close to work, that isn't falling apart. I'm so sick, literally sick for the past week, of the cold and snow. I could buy 4 homes in FL for a similar one in DC, both in good neighborhoods. (Nice SFH/TH home in Wellington goes for $250-350k, Nice single home in Vienna, VA are well over $1m).

We purchased a vacation home here last year was there for a few weeks, and have not had the opportunity to visit since. Hoping to pay off the vacation home in 5-7 years and move down to North Palm Beach to have a more relaxed lifestyle (still work, but normal hours and less time commuting).

One hesitation is the job market, and the overall diversity. I'm a Federal worker in the Tech field and am Asian. When I was in West Palm, only saw a few Oriental markets (mainly small ones). Walking around CityPlace/Jupiter/Juno/Palm beach, I saw very few Asian folks (maybe I wasn't there long enough).
Are people accepting of diversity in the area? When I was growing up, I was one of the few Asians in my school, so I got some not so friendly remarks about my ethnicity. Now DC area is extremely diverse, and most people who aren't total bigots, are accepting and welcoming.
What is the mindset like in the Palm beach area? I guess, I just don't want my future kid(s) to experience racial hatred or slurs like what I did when I grew up.

Also, it looks like there aren't that many Tech or Gov jobs. I'm not too worried about the salary difference, since the lower housing cost would offset - just concerned whether I can get a stable office job in 5 or 8 yrs.

Maybe I'm thinking too far ahead.

Honestly I think you would be fine moving here and we have Asians just more spread out unevenly across the county so take that in mind they don't tend be concentrated like in North Va area. As far as companies go I know a couple good ones are here but depending on your skills I'm not sure about being hired one of them. South Florida tends to liberal so I don't think you would experience any type of racial bigotry or anything like that.
