We moved to AZ more than 5 years ago due to my husband's job relocation, and we love it here, but it's now time to pack up again and start a new adventure.

My husband was given a promotion opportunity within his organization that requires us to move to Florida, as he will be working in the Plantation area. Honestly, I would stay in Arizona if we could, but it's an excellent career opportunity he can't miss, so we are willing to sacrifice staying away from our entire family on the west coast, plus leaving this beautiful state we have grown to love and appreciate. We plan on moving back to the west coast (probably AZ again) in a couple of years, once he has enough experience and probably transfer back through his organization, but for now we will have to move to Florida and adapt.

Now, that being said, we have a 11-year old son, who is currently in 5th grade and he has been doing great in school. I have been reading up on So. Florida's overall bad educational reputation, so I fear for him. I am considering homeschooling or even going private. I also worry about safety, and staying away from places with bad pockets.

We won't have time to visit before our move, as it will be within 1 month at the max. I am probably looking towards renting a smaller furnished rental or extended stay hotel type of deal, for 1-2 months or just until we find a home in a decent place. Husband is willing to commute if that's what it takes for us to live in a nicer area with decent schools. I have been interested in WPB, PBG and Boca. Could anyone tell me if those are indeed nice and safe areas to live? Are there bad pockets? How are the schools in the area? How long of a commute should we expect? How well or bad do these areas do when a major storm hits? Flooding problems?

We would like to rent a house (3 bd. 2 bth), possibly a newer construction, and in a calm, residential and family area with kids, and our budget would probably be max $3.5K/month. Can we find such homes on this price budget?
I have looked at Zillow and Trulia but it does not give me an idea of nice areas, even though we find some nice homes, I wonder if there are any bad pockets around that we need to avoid.

Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

What's your husband's current commute? WBP, PBG are going to be a considerable commute to get to Plantation.
Boca might be tough to find newer construction in that price point.
You may want to look at West Boynton, Parkland, and possibly even Weston to fit what you are looking for and shorten up the commute to Plantation

whew.....lots of questions!

Schools are fine, forget the homeschool fantasy just rent in a good school district.

$3500 a month and "new construction" plus a good school district is probably not going to happen, pick 2 of 3!

Plantation is the greater Ft Lauderdale area/central Broward County. Stretching north to Palm Beach County will be a hassle for the commuting. Spend a few bucks more and stay in Broward, it will be less hassle. Weston/Davie could have what you need!

$3500 will get you new / newer construction on a 3 bedroom 2 bath basically anywhere you desire in south Florida other than oceanfront or inter-coastal front and a few other exceptions . To say not is simply ridiculous. $3500 is a very healthy budget for a rental of a 3/2.

Ditto. Budget is fine. Even Boca if you go a little west, which is also very nice and safe and where the better schools are. Maybe 45 minutes to Plantation depending on traffic--an hour in season. But Boca is nicer than Davie.

What are the best parts of Boca? East, West? What areas to avoid?
We figured we would rather pay a bit more and live in a safe area, and that's the reason for a higher planned rent budget. We would never pay $3.5k elsewhere but after reading so many things about safety and schools, we have decided it works okay for us.
