We're thinking of moving down to Boca Raton from Port St Lucie... Port St Lucie is beyond safe when it comes to crime for a city it's size...

How's the crime rate in Boca Raton? Is it mostly just old retired people and snow birds? Any "bad" areas?

I see Delray Beach and Boynton have much higher crime rates...

I have heard from more than one source that violent crime in Boca is middling and property crime is above average. Just curious... why the move from PSL to Boca?

Boca is a safe, well run city. Most of the crime reports I see are car break-ins, if you leave your purse or phone in your car thats a mistake. I see a pretty good mix of all ages, I go to the beach, & play golf, I see lots of active people young thru older folks. There's a very good reason retiree's flock here, it's the quality of life.....

I'd like to correct my post to read that violent crime in Boca is a little below average. Middling implies average.

Unless you are driving on I95 and get shot, killed:
Man fatally shot while driving on Interstate 95 - Sun Sentinel

A man driving a sports car was shot and killed on Interstate 95 Wednesday — an incident that closed a southbound portion of the highway for more than four hours.

About 4:30 a.m., a Florida Highway Patrol unit working an overnight construction detail heard a crash approaching the Yamato Road exit on I-95, said Mark Economou, a spokesman for Boca Raton police.

And now another shooting on 95 in WPB.
So sad.

As far as Boca... they get busted every few years for under reporting crime.
Like any other city, Boca has good and bad areas.

Crime is grossly under reported.. and accellerating as the influx from the north AND south continues.

I hope to god we won't need to put bars on our windows like they do in so many towns in Puerto Rico.

I live in Boca and I have friends in Delray and Boynton Beach, and the crime is spreading there as I type.

Be happy you live so very far away!

Delray is not as bad as everyone here seems to think. I never feel unsafe. Delray, Boca, and Boynton West of Military Trail is all very safe. Mostly gated communities and Publix Plazas everywhere. Not that interesting, and not that dangerous either.

Delray suffers badly from spillover crime. I have a good friend that owns a million dollar home EAST of US1. Regular property crime (breaking into cars, stealing stuff out of garages, stealing from workers vehicles while at your house in broad daylight). 3 blocks west is ghetto so it is an easy "commute" for the thieves.

This has been going on for the 30+ years he has lived there. Worst part is wondering when the crime will escalate into violent crime. While breaking into your car if you catch them will they then will they try to retaliate and turn it into an assault or worse? Things you shouldn't have to worry about in a million dollar neighborhood!
