We have moved a few times over the years and now we are looking to settle down with our two daughters (7 & 4) in FL. We have job opportunities in Boca areas, also (Naples, Santa Rosa, Stuart, Orlando, Tampa areas). Moving from Newport Beach, CA, housing seems so cheap to us in Florida. It's $1200/sq/ft here and you don't get much, then add state taxes and other issues in California, it makes sense to move. I am originally from Louisiana and know about humidity and bugs. We also spent 8 years in New Orleans before moving to CT and CA. We live by the beach and love using the ocean almost daily (surfing/swimming). This is our biggest concern. The taxes and government here are just off their rockers. Our budget is $1.2M and need to be in a safe, family oriented neighborhood for our kids. It's important to us to be able to get to the water though. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

With your budget, you have an array of incredible options to choose from. Out of all, I would look into Stuart and Naples. Naples is clean and gorgeous with a plethora of beautiful homes with your budget to choose from. Tons of amenities. World class white sand gulf beaches. Only thing is traffic.

Stuart is much smaller, less ritzy & down-to-Earth. It's a small town and part of what we call the treasure coast. Very pretty, very clean, organized, family friendly, A-rated school districts, nice people, amenities, beautiful beaches. I think it's one to check out. You'll love it.

I would plan a trip down here to see what area you're attracted to the most.

If surfing is important to you then Stuart is probably the best choice among the towns you listed. Northern Palm Beach County and points north is where the surf becomes somewhat consistent in Florida. Naples will rarely have any surf. Having said this, nothing in Florida will compare to California for surfing.

My uncle had the same feeling when he retired from Newport Beach to Florida. Ft Lauderdale had enough action, close to airports/Miami sports. Anything further north he felt was too slow.

He built a big place in Ft Lauderdale on the water. 3.5X bigger than his house in Newport Beach for the same $$$$.
