I posted this thread once before and a couple of you recommended Dr. Joseph Ojea in Boynton Beach but he does not take my health plan, which is Humana - the worst plan ever! Someone else recommended Dr. Joel Silverman but he is not seeing new patients until March. I can't wait that long. I have severe pain in my legs 24-7 and my lousy doctor after me complaining for over a year finally did a lower extremities ultrasound which I was told was normal. I am only 54 and am practically unable to walk at this point. In addition, I got bronchitis about 3 months ago which did not respond to antibiotics and now is worse and I am having severe trouble breathing and this doctor does nothing about it. If I don't find a decent doctor to go to and soon, I will be forced to leave Florida so I can get medical care.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you

Oh, I guess I was right to suspect there really are NO decent doctors here. I understand the system is overloaded with snow birds and the HMO's down here suck. I have never experienced this lack of health care before moving to Florida. I think people are better off on Medicade but I have too much money to qualify for that. I'ts a shame.

If you have cash, try Mexico, Cuba, or South America, seriously. I will probably visit again in the late spring/early summer, waiting until then for routine maintenance for entire family. I would only use medical services in the US, now the new number one third world country, for a dire emergency - which would still require a mountain of cash in view of high deductibles, not to mention the humiliation in human terms in view of how we are treated by so-called professionals.

At this time of year, plane fare up north or down south would probably be about the same, do the math for the rest.

It sounds like your insurance provider is the problem, not doctors in Florida. I actually like the doctors in Florida the most out of all the cities I've lived in; Anchorage, Wasilla, Seattle, San Francisco & Gold Coast (Australia). They seem qualified, friendly, plentiful and always have parking right outside their building =). Call your insurance provider or go to their website, you can find out or should be able to find out either way, which doctors you are eligible to see. From this point, look at which university they recieved their medical degree to determine which one is the most qualified.

Thank you. I looked up where my current doctor got his degree and it is rated terrible - unfortunately I did this AFTER I selected him as my primary care. I honestly think no good doctors take Humana insurance. I get HMO insurance from my federal retirement, but I don't see that any HMO's get good reviews from Florida so I am considering dropping it and pocketing the money (although it's only about 80 a month). I hope the current administration can help the insurance crisis in this country. But the truth is, if you can qualify for Medicaid, which I can't, you actually get better care. It's the middle class that suffers from this.

Try this Doctor. I used him when I lived in FL.

Good luck Joanie! I just had my wisdom teeth pulled...agh so much bleeding, it's finally calming down today. I'd highly recommend my oral surgeon if you need one, Dr. Katz of Boca Raton. Good luck again!

Compared to New York City (I lived in Staten Island) the Doctors down here in Florida are terrible. I haven't found one I like yet. I love Florida and would never go back but the two biggest negatives down here for me and my family is doctors and crime......
