My husband and I want to move to Florida in a few years.
We are young 50's. Kids will be grown up. We want to easy
access to beach areas, safety, and will need to work so employment
opportunities need to be good. My husband would probably
work at a college or university. I can work anywhere. We'd like
to find a somewhat artsy, or at least not too conservative
community that is not really pricey. Maybe 2-3 bedroom
condo in the $300,000. -$350,000. range. Any suggestions
on where to start? Thanks.

For an "artsy" bohemian feel, check out Delray Beach (downtown area), College Park in Lake Worth, Parrot Cove in Lake Worth, Flamingo Park in West Palm Beach, and Grandview Heights in West Palm Beach. Homes available in your price range in all of those neighborhoods.

Colleges in Palm Beach county include: Palm Beach Community College, Northwood University, Palm Beach Atlantic College, Florida Atlantic University (FAU). FAU has two campuses in Palm Beach County -- one in Jupiter, and one in Boca Raton.

What can I say, I love Delray. It's close to everything and has a great feel to it. Come check it out!
The City has a great website with tons of information on it.

Pineapple Grove area of Delray Beach or the Mizner area in Boca. Both are convenient to Florida Atlantic University. I would opt for Delray. Less expensive and stuffy than Boca. Be sure to check into the storm evaculation policies in any of the areas east of Federal Highway. Very rare, but if you are forced to evacuate in the event of an approaching storm it can be a real pain.
