Planning move to Boca or Jupiter next year (Miami, Fort Lauderdale: home, neighborhoods)

We have a child in Elementary school. We keep hearing everyone say How Tacky Boca is. I don't think so.

What are the pros and cons of Boca and Jupiter?


Public schools best for a good long while............

We like both areas! Any one on who lives in Boca and thinks it's tacky or ?

First time I've heard this word used to describe the main characteristic of Boca Raton, the usual stereotype is that it is snobbish, not tacky.

There are some family neighborhoods in Boca Raton with friendly people, though, to be sure, there are a lot of old folks with dour faces who, in some way or another, make it clear that they do not appreciate the presence of children in places like supermarkets.

There are several types of subdivisions, you can probably find one that is suitable for you.

I suppose the biggest advantage that Boca Raton offers, from the perspective of a parent with school-age children, is the variety and quality of education choices: a rarity certainly in Florida, and in much of the US, the public schools are actually a viable option, there is wide range of private schools to choose from, and there is even at least one home school group that I know of.

Boca Raton hands down. Better schools. More educated population. Central location.

I say Jupiter. Jupiter has a better overall school rating according to Bestschools.net.

It's also a "younger" city, overall, less congested, less crime, more and better housing options.

We are also looking at boca...and were considering Jupiter just too far for dh, but all the homework and knowing people who have children that attend these schools in West Boca, they are extremely happy..go to Greatschools.net and look at Sandpipper Elem, Waters Edge or Sunrise Elem, Loggers Run Middle and West Boca High....although U dont need the hs..lol

I cant speak for Jupiter but we were happy with what we saw and heard about the West boca Schools and decided to continue looking there...

Boca is not tacky, it's suburban, but it's really nice with lots to do. I'd choose Boca over Jupiter any day. You're closer to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and the millions of things that they offer. Jupiter has nothing.

I'd choose Jupiter over Boca. I've lived in both and Boca is always doing some road work or construction, the traffic is awful. Great schools in both places. The attitude in Boca can be stuck up but not so much that you'd despise living there. Every neighborhood can have it's pros and cons, I'm sure you could find laid back and stuck up people in both places. Boca is busier than Jupiter, and as someone else mentioned, closer to Ft Lauderdale and Miami.

Ditto what m5* said. Lived in both places (currently live in Jupiter) and the pace is a bit slower here in the north county, and people also seem friendlier. Boca to me is the epitome of suburbia....

A previous poster mentioned educational attainment. According to the US Census roughly 28% of Boca Raton proper has a bachelor's degree whereas around 26% have a degree in Jupiter. Virtually tied when you figure in the margin of error but Boca has the slight lead.

Both places have their advantages and disadvantages. Boca to me appeals more to those with New York/New Jersey ties whereas there still remains a "locals" population in Jupiter.
