Wind mitigation - who where when (insurance, condo, house)

Closing on a house October 1st. Called citizens - got a quote without mitigation $4100, with $2400. The roof is a 2007, so hopefully some discount will come out of it.

Since were closing in less than 4 weeks, who do I call for this?
How soon before closing?

They also take into consideration, age of house and if you have hurricane shutters on it...We were paying around $2500. for insurance on our small condo...got the wind mitigation done, notified my insurance company and they would only come down a couple of hundred dollars..needless to say, we
switched insurance companies...Now my insurance is only around $600 a year...but again that's on a small condo....but you should save considerable $$..Good luck

My insurance agent had someone come out. It cost $50 for the inspection, if I remember correctly.

It is important for everyone to relize what a wind mitigation inspection can do for you. The savings can be so great that it is well worth the $150 inspection fee. But don't think going with the "lowball" guy is worth saving $25 or even $50 or more. There is usually a reason why they are less. The last thing you want is for your insurance company to reinspect your original wind mitigation inspector. Check out their qualifications and pick your inspector that way. The ones with multiple qualifications will be the best. Like a combination of certificate training and being a combination of different types of inspectors is what you want. In example an inspector that has training certification and is a General Contractor and/or Building Inspector, is what you want.
