I keep hearing about how big polo/equestrian events are in Wellington. It's all over the brochures. Will we will like outsiders living there if we aren't "horse people"?

No, you won't as long as you don't live out in the Equestrian areas. I know several people that live in Wellington that would be scared to get within 10 feet of a horse. There are lots of standard gated communities and neighborhoods.

No, you won't feel like an outcast majority of Welly World are people like yourself. You will however see more "horse people" during season and it's common to see them walking around Publix in their riding pants and boots with stable patties stuck to the soles I kid you not!

Thanks. I figured it was that way but thought I'd better ask. I like horses and everything but it's not our lifestyle!

Probably 99% of people in Wellington are not horse people. Also the horse people are generally there only during winter I think.

Not exactly, but horse people are still a minority in Welly World. They live in exclusive communities and big estates in certain areas. They also live here all year round but during season there is a substantial increase with all the events in Wellington and also at nearby Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in nearby Greenacres.

A lot of celebrities live in Wellington that are into horses, sometimes seasonally or occasionally. A few that come to mind are Tommy Lee Jones, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and a few others. They tend to keep a low profile and like most other horse people they hang in their own circles.

You will see money here but in no way is it Beverly Hills nor will anyone of the average income bracket or lower feel uncomfortable living here.

Okay, " stable patties"
I am one of those horse people and we don't exactly walk around like that.

I rented short term in Palm Beach Polo Club which during polo season has a lot of renters for that reason from out of state. I don't ride horses or watch and did not feel out of place at all. My whole stay I saw a horse 1 time when I drove through a different part of the community. Good luck with your move

Maybe you don't but I have seen people walking around with their riding pants and boots on while shopping in Publix with pieces of it on their boots and on the floor when it broke off. I could smell it a few times too, I know the smell and texture as I grew up around horses.
