Hello, looking for some personal stories if anyone wants to share. I am in the process of relocating to Jupiter from Maryland with my husband and two children. My husband started his new job in April and I plan to move when i sell our house in MD. Through all the excitement I am worried about not knowing anyone in the area and missing our family and friends. Anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks!

We just did the same thing (moved from NC to south FL with 1 kid and 1 on the way due to hubby's job), and we're 1 month in to it. I'd have to say that it's probably easier to have him down here first, and hopefully he can scout out neighborhoods and you guys can find a location prior to the move. We moved first, and we're now looking for a house. I signed my little guy up for a weekly music class and we spend a lot of time at the local park meeting other moms with young kids. We also have been church hopping looking for a new church home that feels right so we'll be able to meet other families that share our beliefs. It's taking some time (being in a neighborhood I think would make it easier, but maybe not), but we're starting to meet people and get the lay of the land. My advice would be to just dive right in - pick some activities, go to story time at the library, go to the park, visit some churches. It's tough at first - being away from all of our friends and family is an adjustment - but for us it's worth it. Good luck!

Thanks for the response. Getting excited about the move, especially with winter being around the corner.

I have and am currently living with no family near and I am single. There are times of sadness and feeling homesick. With visits that are regular, talking on the phone, computers it makes it easier. If you can join groups it can help in meeting people, volunteer, help out at your kids school. There is community ed programs, meet up group where you put in an interest and your zip,if you join a gym or activity like tennis. It just takes 1 friend to make it feel more like home plus that can introduce you to others
