I'm planning on checking out a few trails in the area. I would like to go on my first official "hike" in Florida. What are some fun walking trails in palm beach county? Any wildlife I should watch out for (like bears, panthers, etc). Any input would be appreciated!

As a teenager I hiked Jonathan Dickinson State Park (which I believe is technically Martin County, but borders right on northern Palm Beach County).

Can't remember the wildlife, but I was probably too busy being paranoid about coming across a snake, lol. I'm sure they have a visitor center with information on the local wildlife.

Sounds good. Thanks! I'm also looking into visiting Apoxee Park. It's off of Okeechobee Blvd. Haven't been there yet, but I have a friend that recently moved into the area. Looks like that has a nice walking trail, too.

Here's a good link for ya:

Welcome to Florida State Parks

Also, you should check out the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center here in Boca Raton. I've been going there since I was a kid and they have a long, winding boardwalk through the mangroves that lead to the Intercoastal amongst a few other attractions.

As far as wildlife, I've seen foxes, manatee, sting ray, crabs, blue herons, etc. As someone stated above, watch out for those snakes, too. They're out there

Dear Marcy ~
I have photographed Pigmy Rattlesnakes in there, from the boardwalk.
