Hi there ...

So the mrs the bulldog and I (no kids) are putting our DC townhouse on the market next week and are heading to South Florida to make a final decision as to the exact area we are going to move to.

The options are:

1. Miami Beach (mid beach)
2. Boca Raton/Delray
3. Palm beach Gardens

Budged is around $1.25mil. ... single family home with a pool is a must for my ailing back, and water/canal frontage would be preferable.

I'm 45 and mrs soulsea is in her mid thirties, and although retired as a result of me selling all my businesses, we're not quite ready for the 'put out to pasture' lifestyle. So we're trying to decide on a location where there is some semblance of vibrancy.

Miami Beach is Miami Beach ... we know it well, both its plusses and its many negatives. There we'll get less of a house, the traffic is a pain, area not that clean, the people somewhat off-putting, and we'd enjoy Dade County level services. However we have many friends there, many who pass by frequently, restaurant/nightlife advantages, and Miami arts and culture, all these are plusses.

I like the Boca Raton and PBG areas ... they are clean and well maintained (from what I can tell), the people are easy going and hospitable, we can get more house than in Miami Beach, and I can jump in the pool or a small boat when I step out the living room. Downside (to a degree) is that we don't know a soul there.

The thing that worries us about those locations is that we're going to be living in a pretty house in a lovely area and I'll go stir crazy and the mrs will go stepford.

So I'm soliciting your input as to what would await us should we move to one of the above indicated areas north of Miami, preferably from folks our age, and some input on whether we should (for now) just stick to Miami Beach until we're almost ready to expire.

Thanks a bunch.

Cheers!

If you want a more relaxed, clean area check out the Gardens. You can get a nice canal home in your price range and it sounds like a good fit for your lifestyle. There's a ton of restaurants and shopping. Miami, FTL, and Orlando aren't far if you want to take a weekend getaway.
For the most part people are pretty friendly in the area and you shouldn't have a problem meeting people.

Delray/Boca wouldn't be a bad choice either. Atlantic Ave is a lot of fun in Delray.

Smile Boca Raton -

You have so many options. I'm sure you want to be on the water. Check out Estoville in Boca Raton.

You most likely want to check out places/neighborhoods while here - I think you would love parts of Boca and Delray - Delray has tons of cool restaurants also.
