Hello everyone ,

I accepted an offer in Boca Raton so I am relocating to South Florida at the end of the month. I've been getting mixed advice on where to live that is safe and secure for a female in her 20s. So I;m rather confused on where I should or shouldn't look.

The position is in Boca Raton and I don't mind driving 30 minutes or less to work every morning if the area is right.

I keep reading about the high crime in South Florida, especially robbery and car theft. So advice from any locals would be a great help on where I should move.

It was suggested I look in Del Ray Beach and Deerfield Beach. I was told I should focus my attention on Deerfield Beach area though. Any building or management company suggestions? Or rental sites I should focus on?

What I'm looking for:
$1000 or less (Willing to raise for the amenities, location and safety)
0+ bedroom
High Rise preferably with doormen/security guards or a place that is just as secure.

Background:
Late 20s
Female
Relocating from the Suburbs of Illinois

Also do you have any suggestions on how to ship a 1 bedroom apartment from Illinois to South Florida that will be hundreds rather than thousands of dollars? It would be greatly appreciated. I contacted PODS and they are sold out.

Because this is the busiest time of year for movers, you need to act fast as far as reservations, as you already learned.

I don't think you'll be able to find a high rise with a doorman in your price range, and if you want to be safe, you're looking at at least $1K/month.

Check out realtor.com for rentals.
Renting a from a private owner, generally speaking, will put you in a better area.

There's a map under the Ft Lauderdale section that shows where the better areas are in Broward County (Deerfield's in Broward).

$1K/month will be a stretch in Boca and pretty much all of South Florida for what you want. Maybe off of Craigslist, but I would be careful and also those places won't have a "doorman" or "security" at that rate. I can tell you that $1300/month will get you a one bedroom in one of the corporate apartment rents, that is big complexes...and they are at most gated and that alone is not much good since it's easily bypassed or people just ride your bumper in when you go through the gate.

You can try Packrat, but keep in mind a lot of those containers will require pre-approval from the property manager or HOA to be dropped at the location you move to. Also they tend to tie up parking spots in apartment complexes.

Ok thanks. Ya I'm willing to raise my price if the area and complex is okay. I guess when I said complexes I should of said condo complexes as well.

Ya, its a 2 family house I live in so I'm guessing I would have to ask the landlord. However like you mentioned I was wondering if those containers would even be ok since all the houses on the block share street parking.

I'll call PackRat to see Thanks so much for the feedback

Try realtor.com, search for "Rentals"...if you like being near the beach and near more nightlife...try Delray Beach in and around Atlantic Ave...there are some nice places off of Federal Highway which gives you a great walk to the beach and downtown Delray..

if your not a beach and nightlife person, you can work closer to your job and live in more of a Suburbia type of setting......I know there is some townhomes off of Yamato and Broken Sound Parkway, adjacent to the old IBM complex, whether or not there is any rentals in there is a question, probably quite pricey if so?

I know it's called "Centra", I have driven buy it few times, just recently built in the past few years..

Centra Boca - New Townhomes for Sale in Boca Raton

Try padmapper.com...as well..

I take it you have been here and looked around already?? Assuming you had an onsite interview for the job you were offered that is..

Oh wow! Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into that Nope I haven't been there before. Everything was done virtually

I like nightlife but I dont care to live around it. My main concern is safety if anything I can drive over to nightlife and beaches if I'm in the mood. I was told its best not to live near beaches due to hurricanes too. Not sure how true that is but ya safety, security, and comfort is my main concerns. I guess after reading all those robbery and car theft reports I'm extra paranoid haha!

I'll be staying in a hotel for a week then staying with family for a week or two while looking for a place. So I'm not too panicked just want to have a plan of action as soon as I get there.

Well I am a bit panicked but thats in regards to how I'm moving everything to South Florida without going over $800.00. Seems shipping via FedEx or Barrels is my only option.
