We're thinking of buying a tear down in Boca and building a residential home. We would like to build the house ourselves, as in find/hire all the contractors. Anyone on this board know of anyone who has decided to do this or has done this themselves? I'm sure there are plenty of reputable builders in the Boca area, but after living in IL, having our house built 7.5 years ago by who we thought was a great builder, we're slowly finding out there were a lot of corners cut, etc. (I know this happens all the time). We would just rather be in charge and know if something down the road were to fail or be messed up, it was on our watch, not someone who charged more, hid costs. We're not totally clueless when it comes to the subject, we did GC our basement ourselves, took longer, but totally worth and we would definitely do it again. I know this does not make us pros or give us a seal that we actually know what we're doing I realize this is a big project, just wondering if anyone has gone down this road before in the area. We would be renting in Boca while construction is taking place. TIA!

Unless you are extremely familiar with SoFla building codes, you'll need a GC (at least to hold your hand). This isn't Goat Hump, IA where people still raise barns.

lol Goat Hump…nice. I agree. Now to only convince my DH. I know SW FL GCs, hopefully they can help me on the SE side. Thanks so much for your input, Jim.
