We are planning to move to Florida this year. It would be me, my husband and our 15 year old son.. My in laws are in Boynton Beach and we would like to be close to them. We are most like like going to put our son in private school. I am confused and need help. My biggest concern is my son. I would need a very family friendly neighborhood. And a private school where the kids would be welcoming of a newcomer. He loves to play baseball and soccer but is a average non competitive player.

I am open to any of the areas above but not sure which would be best for us. We would like a newer home and will spend up to $700,000 for a house. We are non practicing reform jewish so no catholic school.

Thank you

do you want to be close to the beach? that price range might be tough in a good neighborhood and newer construction east of 95 (beach side) in either delray or boca. if you were willing to do some work there are still some homes in the east side of delray in the lake ida neighborhood, which is very safe and family friendly (and close to downtown and beach). but even the fixer uppers are few and far between. if west of 95 works, i know there are some really nice new gated communities in that price range in boynton out by the jog road area.

Equus would be nice. It's further West but he would have a big yard to practice sports.
Palm Meadows is a new community being built across the street from there that should be great. Won't be able to move until mid to late 16 though.
The Canyons are newer nicer communities as well.
For around 700k you should be able to find a nice 3700-4000+ sqft house if you stay West.

Thanks for your responses. We do not need to be near the beach. We also would not mind having a smaller and older house to get into a better area.

Boca a has some really beautiful parks for kids- I'm thinking DeHoernle Park which has great soccer and baseball fields. You could probably get an older home near there; That's just an area I'm familiar with that seems real family friendly. It just seems so much cleaner there than Boynton or Delray.
If I had kids who liked sports and the outdoors Boca would be my first choice. They just have such a nice park and recreation system there.

The gated communities mentioned are nice but seem kinda isolated to me . Just my opinion.
If you wanted a private school Boca might be a better place to find one that's not Christian- based.

i second byebye's post. i live in delray and like it a lot for the most part, but the trash situation is DEPLORABLE. ive had to buy one of those trash claw thingees, picking up trash along swinton Ave when walking the pups. so sad, because it is generally such a pretty area. boynton has the same problem. we need to bring back the crying indian from those PSAs in the 70s.

Seems like Boca Raton would be a great fit for you. It is very family oriented, there are great schools, quite a few parks, and a pretty large jewish community. If you don't need to be close to the beach, $700k can get you a very nice house here.

Thank you. I do agree after more research that Boca would be a good fit. Does anyone have experience with private vs public school? One person said private May be harder socially for my son since most of the kids have been together since kindergarten and public schools are more transient. He is 15 and shy so I want to make the move as easy as possible which is why I was thinking private school. Thanks!

FYI not all lots in Equus are the large lots.....those were a huge upgrade and limited in availability. The rest of the neighborhood is 1/4 acre lots with 10 ft of grass around the house perimeter.

I moved down with a 15 year old daughter last year. She started her first year of high school here (Park Vista). She had a good year. I had considered private school, but thought there was a greater possibility of kids being together for years and it would be harder to break in.
I needed to be close to family in Boynton and ended up in Western Lake Worth. I'm renting in a development full of kids. If you are considering the Canyons - there is a new charter high school right there. It is very small - We toured it, but decided against it.

In your price range you might like Wellington. It is not very far from parts of Boynton has a good high school and nice homes
Good luck
