A few months ago we purchased a small older home in Mangrove Walk area of Boynton Beach. We have been working on a list of upgrades we are considering for the house. We have noticed two things: most of these old florida homes are on the small side (1400sf+) and have had there garages turned into additional living space. We were considering putting in a carport, but have noticed that almost no one has carports. Can anyone tell me if there is a reason for this? We are in a no HOA/restrictions area.

Not to be Capt Obvious but if the car had a garage........why not use it for what it was intended?

Carports = flyaway come hurricane time so that will make them unpopular!

As I stated, most of the garages have been bricked in and converted to living spaces. Maybe it's a matter of the cost to build something strong enough to withstand the weather.

actually why did you simply not purchase a home with a garage? Obviously you knew when you purchased the home there was no garage or it was converted
