Interesting considering how so many people go on about how BAD Florida is across the board. There is a NICE place in Florida.

This is an opinion article, not an analysis.

I really don't think the machinations of Danielle Babb should cause anyone to yay or nay anything one way or the other, although it's funny that people are just now figuring out that Austin is a good one.

Basically, every conventional real estate model has been saying the Austin metroplex is one of the best places (RE speaking) in the US for years now, even though everyone was ignoring it because the growth in prices was so stupid elsewhere and Austin was a boring "solid". I've been crowing about real estate in Austin too (including on this site) for a very long time.

Now that everyone else has figured it out, I guess I have to find the next place...

I don't know about West Palm Beach but I noticed that some prices in Palm Beach Gardens are continuuing to drop while the area continues to grow. Some of these places are really nice with room for growth so I wouldn't mind taking a chance on it at this time.

I was raised in West Palm Beach. I haven't lived there full time for 13 years, but my parents and my sister and her family still live there. I frequently go back--for up to a month or more at a time (in fact I just got back home from over a month-long trip). Sure seems nice to me. I'd be tempted to move back if it weren't for the almost year-round heat combined with humidity, and the fact that it's so flat (I'm an avid hiker, plus hills/mountains are just aesthetically pleasing to me).

It is a strange article. I'm not sure what the goal is. Sure, many parts of Palm Beach are amazing. But the inventory of houses for sale is 55 months. And lots of trouble has yet to come to the area housing market.

I don't see how it is good to recommend the area to people who do not know the local market right now. The top line says places to live or buy an investment property.

Perhaps for a market expert. But for a person from the outside it makes no sense to gamble on an area with a 55 month inventory and record foreclosures.

At least the author says risk and gamble several times in his blurb. But his basis is weak...baby boomers retiring. That myth has been shattered, most have little savings and those that can move down here would mostly look for cheap retirement communities, not Palm Beach.

Yeah, I agree it's not a good place to head at the moment if your goal is just to make a killing off of real estate. That's a great deal of places in the US at the moment.

Otherwise, it's nice.
