I am new to the area and am wondering which is a better facility at which to have a baby - Bethesda Memorial or Wellington Regional? I live closer to Bethesda Memorial, but one of the doctors I am considering only has privileges at Wellington. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Last summer we had a healthy boy at Bethesda. OVerall it was a good hospital... many debates we heard on hospitals was between Bethesda and Boca and boca west. Really it came down to the nurse they had and his/her mood plus his/her profesionalism.

One item that drove us nuts at Bethesda was making sure we got a room with a shower or bath. Their overflow rooms did not have them. There are a lot of immigrants there that can get the good rooms before you. Such is this crazy place in SFL. We did get a good room. Ask each hospital about that issue and policy.

One other tip is do not let Bethesda or any other hospital see the baby with some speciallist baby doctor ...unless issues....have your own ready. I never knew this especially since ..praise God ...was a good healthy boy. Well we got a huge bill from some contracted out specialist ...and even with good insurance had to pay this contracted doctor $400. Get your own pedetrician.

Bethesda was overall good despite the unkown contracted doctor. Security was great like they have in other hospitals with the baby with a tag that will set off an alarm if moved from the floor.

I had two babies at Wellington and received excellent medical care. In my opinion, the primary thing you should look for is great nurses. Your doctor may make only a 10-minute visit during the birth, but the nurses do everything else for the entire stay.

Both times I had my own room with my own bath/shower. They encourage you to walk around in labor, exercise, etc. They also have great prenatal classes and breastfeeding support nurses. Your baby stays in your room with you at night - which I found great.

What exactly are you saying by that statement?

Do you mean illegals??? or immigrants that are here legally and have just as many rights as you?
