I am considering retiring in North Palm Beach. Does it have a cute main street area? A place with shops and restaurants that is walkable?

NPB is quiet. You'll find more action in Jupiter (Harbourside would be the walkable "outdoor mall") or PBG as previous poster mentioned. Other nearby options include Tequesta, Singer Island and West Palm Beach/Palm Beach.

If you are looking for an actual downtown - as in places that are not just malls - then you might check out Lake Worth or Delray Beach. Both have an actual down town with small shops and coffee bars etc. Many of the supposed "towns" here in S.Fl are just geographical designations with no real town center. Delray has perhaps been already done. Lake Worth still has a vivid art scene and is probably more like the "old" Florida. Cottages of Lake Worth - Living Large in Small Spaces

Stuart and Jensen Beach (both about 30 miles north of the Palm Beach County line) in Martin County have small downtowns. Stuart's downtown is larger but both are walkable with bars, restaurants, and small stores and galleries.

I spent a year in Stuart/Jensen Beach and I loved it. That is a possibility.

North Palm doesn’t have a Main Street area with shops and restaurants like what you’re thinking of. Stuart does though, and it’s a lot quieter up there. The water quality doesn’t compare to north palm beach though. I’m talking beaches, once you get over the intracoastal the difference is massive.
