I am debating whether I should live in either two...we currently live in NYC I am a registered nurse. Florida: no state tax-high property taxes-high flood insurrance-cost of living so/so. Georgia: state tax-lower cost of living...we have family in florida...friends in Georgia
any Georgia transplants in Florida who can help us decide?
sincerely,
confused

Um, kind of a vast question? Georgia is a huge diverse state and Lake Worth is one of the worst Florida has to offer. So if it's Lake Worth and ONLY Lake Worth vs GA, than it's GA.

That is considered West Boynton. It's a whole different world from the city of Lake Worth (despite using the city's name for mailing addresses).

If we are talking about that area, I would still pick GA. There are quite a few areas I prefer in GA (and in South Florida) to west Boynton. However, I would take Wellington or especially North County (Jupiter, Juno Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, etc) or Martin County over anywhere in GA. Very nice place for a family, almost feels California-ish. Like South OC or San Diego. Very relaxed casually upscale vibe up that way.

Default Florida Retiree in GA

YES! I'm a Florida Cracker, born & raised, so listen to me good. DON'T GO TO FLORIDA! GA is the place to be, nice country, nice people, lots of room to grow and LESS crime (but they don't think so). trust me, Florida (especially South Florida) has become a cess-pool of criminals and the rich (they deserve each other) but no room for the average joe or "Middle Class", especially families raising kids!
I'm ashamed to write this but must tell the truth since no Realtor, banker, politician or government person will! Good luck and God Bless.
Worker Bee

I think Georgia would be too much of a culture shock going from NYC. That southern accent is going to be very noticeable. You will also probably feel like the world has come to a standstill with the change in pace and the off-the-radar southern culture.

I think South Florida has more to offer the NYC transplant...that is why there are so many there already. Crime is what it is. You have seen it all already in NYC. And there is a reason rich people live in South Florida....they choose to. They could live anywhere and choose South Florida so it can't be as bad as Worker Bee makes it out be.
Worker Bee sounds like a person who probably sees more cons than pros in south florida.....just because of who she is....not that she is negative or anything but it sounds like she is a "what happened to old florida person?" Coming from NYC, I think you will find more cons than pros in Georgia. And I think you will find more pros than cons in South Florida.....unless you are looking for a much slower pace of life.

Heh, funny how writing a sentence like your last two can make ANYTHING look like the "truth". And I'm not a Realtor, banker, politician or (aren't they the same?) government person, and I could almost certainly live up your way and make an nice living with all of the retirees moving in, but I choose not to because I don't need 20 acres in the country nor do I need to sit in traffic on I-85 or GA 400 every day (nothing that bad in FL, as much as you would want to think so, there isn't sorry ). Statements like that may be true but reek of hidden agenda, because they are so difficult to dispute and can spin an argument in any persons favor.

Lake Worth west of the turnpike, just might as well go to Wellington because your so close as it is at that point.
