Hello, I am looking to move to PBC. I really like Jupiter, but have seen some really cool, funky houses for sale in Lake Worth (whereas the stuff in Jupiter is pretty boring --typical florida condo/stucco stuff).

I have read some pretty negative things on here about Lake Worth. But it does seem as though some feel some parts are better than others. However, some people's "scary ghetto" is other peoples "trendy, interesting". I am no snob and I do like a mix of people culture. Of course, I am not into the gang thing, lol.

The particular area I am speaking of I believe is considered the "North end", about 10 blocks from the beach. North K street around 10th.

Any and all opinions of this area will be greatly appreciated.

Not really a safe area. I would not recommend it.

Smile Lake Worth Rocks!

I am sorry, but I have to disagree with some of the opinions of Lake Worth. I live near the area you are looking at. My husband and I have owned the house for over 3 years and rented it our tenants loved it so much that they bought a house in Lake Worth and they have a newborn. We decided to move in and leave Miami and absolutely love it. It's charming, eclectic, safe, and has wonderful residents. There are free concerts every once in a while, great events like the reggae festival, street painting, and more. I take a walk every morning for coffee and juice with my toddler and can't believe we didn't move here sooner. Everyone I run into praises it and are so happy they chose Lake Worth over some other areas such as Wellington, Jupiter, PSL. There is a great farmers market about 2 miles away and it is close to luxury shopping as well. Sorry, but I think some people who lived here years ago are still lliving in the past. Lake Worth Rocks!

From everything that I've seen/heard, the areas of Lake Worth to avoid are along "Alphabet City" streets.

I have to agree with those posters who say the area is not safe. I moved from unincorporated Lake Worth around 8 months ago. The area you are looking at is not the best area at all. I would never live there again. I think it could come back in time and be a really funky cool place to live though. The old houses have lots of character compared to the bland cookie cutter homes in some of the better neigborhoods in PBC.

The alphabet streets have really changed through the years. Illegal immigrants populate a good portion of those streets, maybe the majority. Crime is pretty high in those areas, and since the houses are cheaper there you'll find more shady characters there than in Jupiter.

I agree, the city and housing designs are much more interesting than in Jupiter... but it's simply not as safe, and cheap housing attracts undesirable people. Sad but true.

Please come visit the city for yourself. Most of the new residents are from New York. I see immigrants on the west side of Dixie. But then again, they are everywhere in Florida, so they aren't a concern. I live six houses away from a house that is listed at $1,200,000. I wouldn't call that the Ghetto.

Actually the thing about Palm Beach County is that there is that kind of striking wealth right next to da hood. I'm not saying that your neighborhood is a ghetto but I am saying that there are a LOT of stark contrasts like that in PBC. Maybe even more than Miami.
