Ok... let's assume your house is not made out of 1 ft thick concrete with #8 rebar. Boca Raton or anywhere in south florida is basically a disaster waiting to happen if a CAT 5 comes, which it will one day.

I'm curious what do people do here. Do they live here knowing one day their house might be torn off and are they ok with that? Or do they just pray that it doesnt happen. I'm not talking about the rich that can tear it down and build up every year.

S. Florida looks like a dream, but I've never sat in a cat 5 hurricane. I've only been through a tornado and nothing happened as the house I lived in was made out of brick and had 10 ft basement in bedrock in NE. Wind was probably nothing too crazy ~120 mph?

Choice 2. They live knowing that can happen and they pray it doesn’t. Yes it is a disaster waiting to happen. I live here. lots of stupidity and ignorance.

The San Andreas fault keeps threatening to separate California and push the western part into the sea. However, people still live there and pay top dollar. And they have the fires! OMG. Are they just sitting there waiting to die?

As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "It's always something."
