My husband is taking a job in the West Palm area, we just found out! Relocating from IL and the school system in Palm Beach County seems to function different than here. Our public schools have strict zoning, you can't attend schools outside of your district service boundaries. With the research I've done, it looks like there isn't strict zoning to attend schools. Can someone please explain to me how this works? We will be starting 5th grade and 7th grade in Palm Beach County schools in the fall. TIA!

Never rely on the school choice option, especially now with so many people moving to FL with young kids. As schools fill up, they start to limit who can attend to the closest students and the others who live elsewhere start getting bumped to schools closer to where they actually live so don't find the cheapest area to live and hope that your kids can get (and/or stay) in a better rated district. Several people mentioned a good area and school district to live - best to listen to their advice.

If Florida, schools are administered and run on a county level, not town. Schools are classified as "choice" or local. You are guaranteed a spot in your local school, but must apply to the choice (aka magnet) schools and apply to a particular program at that school. You may or may not get accepted. If you do not get accepted, you go to your local school.

Work your way through the individual school videos on the website to understand the range of programs. Many, if not most, are highly competitive for admission and require a high GPA to remain in the program.

Thank you, this is helpful. How do I know which schools are the "choice" schools? I've been researching and it isn't clear.
