Do a search on Ebay stores-I think I saw a postcard for the George Apartments the other day!

Oh boy!! Do I remember this one. I used to go there when I was a kid, off of Lake Worth road and Jog. Good old southern cooking at it's finest....

Anyone remember Cinema and Drafthouse at 10th and Congress? I used to go there when I was in high school. Here are a few other things I remember as a kid growing up in the 80's:

- 6 Flags Atlantis (in FT Lauderdale, not WPB...but was torn down after Andrew)

- Lion Country, as someone already mentioned...glad this is not gone, I'm supprised it's still survived all of these years

- Lake Worth Beach; used to cruise around the circle endlessly looking for guys. Last time I was here, the place looks like a desolate dump. (Although, I haven't been there in 2 years, maybe it has changed)

- Harvest House in the PBM - anyone remember this place? What a delight it was to go there with my mother when I was a kid

- The Expo stadium by the WPB auditorium; my dad used to take me here to watch spring training...I think the Braves used to play here, too.

- Lake Worth drive in - which I think is still there, but again, suprised it's not demolished to make way for new homes.

- Anthony Groves, which is now nothing but suburban Wellington sprawl. Used to go there with the parents to pick your own oranges.

I lived right behind Cinema and Drafthouse for a couple years!--on Summer Street, with a hospital on the other side of me. You could smell the hospital's incinerator at night--yum, lol. Anyway, I went there quite a few times because of that. That apartment was also dangerously close to a (very old) Dunkin Donuts on Congress.

I might have mentioned earlier in the thread that I have a niece and a couple nephews who go there all the time. I was just there with them again in November. Aside from the Pier still being a mess, it seems pretty much the same to me as it always did--I've visited it a lot since the 70s.

Yes, Braves and Expos, spring training and the West Palm Beach Expos minor league team. I worked there when I was in high school . . . I'm a big baseball fan, so that was a great experience. That's one way I got to meet a lot of players.

Even before I worked there, I got to meet Hank Aaron a number of times, as a good friend of mine from school was his nephew (and lived right down the street from the WPB Municpal Stadium, right off of Palm Beach Lakes). I also had an uncle in Los Angeles who worked for the California Angels, so I got to meet a lot of players that way, too.

Looking back on all of that, I realize how stupid I was to not try to use all those contacts to get a job in Major League Baseball. But that's only one of a large number of things that I was very stupid about as a kid, lol. My uncle also worked on the Paramount lot (he actually worked for Gene Autry--Autry owned the Angels), and I let those possibilities fly by without giving much thought to them, too.

How about "Lucille & Otley's" restaurant in the older part of Boynton. Anyone remember this one - a real blast from the past and they had this ridiculously tall "Mile High Lemon Meringue Pie"!

I know this is an old post and odd that I came upon it but....

I have MANY memories of that place.

I can still remember when I was a little boy.... walking through the 100+ rose bushes at Lucille & Otley's house diagonal from the restruant with my mom as she cut the roses for the tables.

I remember how she used to trim them up and store them in the walk in cooler.

I remember thinking how cool it was that I could have chocolate milk whenever I wanted.

I remember the sticky buns (only on Thursdays) and ALL the pies.

I remember the langastino and even the lima beans

I remember being allowed to help the waitresses clear the tables after hours and how mom used to introduce me to the many regulars that came in.

I can even remember breakfast on Saturday mornings when the restraunt was closed. I assume now, that the grown ups were planning what work needed to be done for the day and week?

I am extreamly lucky because on occasion I still get a bannana cream or chocolate cream pie..... still made from the original recipe.

Yes, the beach took a massive hit from the hurricanes. After years of red tape and construction, the beach, along with it's wonderful pier and restaurant, is back to being the great place that it always was! :-)

I am excited about the renovations of the Casino building to make it look more like the original.

I remember driving on Forest Hill Blvd west of the turnpike and being the only car on the road, cattle fields where developments now stand and SR7/441 was a two lane road with little or no traffic. The grounds where the Wellington Mall now stands were woods. You could buy a 3/2/2 house CBS construction, brand new for $110K.

Cooker Restaurant, those Fried Green Tomatoes.

Cruzan Amphitheatre was called Coral Sky Amphitheatre.

You could drive on the turnpike and rarely see traffic compared to today.

It has been many years since I lived in West Palm and have not visited in many years either but a few of the fond places I remember:

Polar Cup- nothing like a lemon Polar Cup or a screwball on a hot summer day

PlayWorld- Turn that frown upside down

Taco Viva- So much better than Taco Bell

The fruit punch from Kobosko's out by Okeehelee Park

Walking to the Woolworth's at the Palm Beach Mall

Luria's (as a kid I really felt special having to be buzzed into a place just to shop)

Deluca's Italian Market in that terrible indoor flea market

I think half the merchandise in the whole mall was of a Scarface theme. I was kind of sad when I left.

I used to love Peaches on Okachobee back in the day too -I bought lots of cassettes there.
When did AJ Gordon's close? I used to love going there when Truc of America was playing-talk about fun!
Also I used to love Maurice's in Palm Beach. The bartender was Benny and he was a wonderful guy.He moved to the bar at The Heart of Palm Beach Hotel long before it got revamped-mid 80s. Was the Heart of Palm torn down recently?
Remember The Greenhouse?
What great memories!!! I loved AJ Gordons too and was there all the time. Loved Truc of America!!!!!
