Hi,

I was wondering if any city in Florida is ideal for asthmatics? My asthma is weather related...humid and cold weather trigger attacks. I'm currently in Chicago and would like to move soon! Also, if you can recommend any other state..that would be great too.

Thanks in advance...

Now I've read as far as "air quality" goes West Palm Beach is one of the top places to live if you have asthma.
I am always interested in this question, because I live in this area, and my 4 yr old has mild asthma. This is why I won't move somewhere COLD. He seems to do ok in the humidity...he's been here since birth.
So back to your question, I'm not sure about weather wise, but I know I have read we have the cleanest air. It was like 87% or something.

Here you go:

  5. Melbourne, FL
  6. Fort Myers, FL
  7. Daytona Beach, FL
  8. Minneapolis, MN
  9. San Francisco, CA
  10. Colorado Springs, CO
It is interesting that of those 10, half are located in Florida.

In the summer...HOTTER than HOT...like most places.
Winter tends to be 70's-low 80's...with an occasional cold-front that could drop the temp in the day as low as 58 degrees, with night-time wind chills in the 30's and 40's. But those fronts last maybe 3 days. The Spring and Fall have day time temps in the 80's.
Oh, and we have Hurricane season June 1st - Nov 30th.

What neighborhoods would you recommend in West Palm Beach? Will need to find a place in a safe neighborhood where the rent is not too high. Also, is it an ideal place for someone who's single? Or are there mainly families out there? thanks!

This can be relative. Many cases of asthma have to do with allergies but not just to pollen. Mold, which is abundant in places like this can be a big trigger and is often aggravated by having to live indoors with central a/c about 8 months of the year.

I don't suffer from asthma but from sinus congestion due to mold and it became a HUGE problem in both places I've lived because once it gets inside the a/c coil it's too late. The spores spread everywhere through the vents and while getting them cleaned out professionally can help it will not really get rid of the problem.

DO you want single family homes, townhouses, or condo living?

Also, what is "affordable" to you?
