You should be more then fine on that. I live downtown West Palm and were paying $1500 a month right now for a large 2/2 a 1/1 was like $1200. I would say something in the Villages or a little further south in Boynton/West Lake Worth you can pick up a nice 1/1 for $900.
I think you are asking if cost of living is high, and it's not too bad. If you are living off that now you should be fine depending on where you are living.

Jupiter isn't that far from West Palm. If I worked in West Palm, I'd live in Jupiter. It might be a 30 minute commute during rush hour. And there is an abundance of shopping between Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens. The Gardens Mall and downtown Gardens has more shopping than anywhere in West Palm. The one thing West Palm has though is Clematis Street.

a paid for car or trying to keep up with the jones's?

you don't need a lot of money to survive here, but it sure helps

That depends. Are you paying rent or mortgage? How much debt do you already have? I believe you mentioned 'northern palm beach county'. Well I can tell you Palm Beach Gdns is not cheap but I'm sure a single person can live just fine on 48k.
