Hello everyone. I just wanted to know if anyone in this area has a family doctor or internist they think is good. I've lived here 4 years and have not found anyone I trust. The doctor I'm seeing now finally examined me after a year and a half of me complaining of severe leg pain and thinks I have PVD - a vascular disorder. Before that he told me I'm just getting old (I'm 53) and to take glusomene. I really don't want to leave Florida at this time (due to finances) but I need decent health care. I have insurance but this disease is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the developed world - or so says the internet. My insurance is Humana and maybe they just don't have good doctors under their plan. Anyway, I need to find someone good or move. Any suggestions? Thanx.

I would get as far away from Florida doctors as possible !!!! From personal experience, thats the first thing they say "at your age" regardless of what your age is !!! I went through the whole gamet -- my man had lung cancer and if it weren't for spending 6 months north he wouldn't have lived as long as he did !! Most family doctors don't go to the hospitals, the hospitals have
'in house doctors' that take over. I hated it !!!! God bless you and good luck.

I doubt that one can judge every Doctor in Florida as being the same....I'm sorry for your loss, but I do not think it is fair to judge every one of any profession the same.

Joanie--

Go to see Paul Ojea, MD. He is a family practice doctor with a practice at Le Chalet and Military (SW corner) and an affiliation with JFK Medical Center. My wife and I recently paid our first visit to him after receiving excellent recommendations. Let me tell you, he lived up to it! He is a very nice and caring individual. Most importantly, he really listens to what you have to say and takes an interest in what is going on in your life. His philosophy is "do as I say and as I do." That is, he will give you recommendations on how to live a healthy lifestyle (e.g. exercise, diet, etc.) while doing the exact same thing (he is a marathon runner and eats a healthy diet---and he is in his 50s!!!). Best wishes.

Just noticed you live in NEPA. I lived in the Scranton area about 20 years ago for 2 years - worked in the public affairs office at Tobyhanna Army depot. Can't say I cared for it all that much but had some very good friends - one of which is still one of my best friends and she still lives in the area.

Default Dr. Ojea

His name is Joseph Ojea M.D. and he is a great doctor. I have been using him for the past six years and everyone I recommend to him, loves him. He really does listen to you and goes out of his way to help. Here is his address: 4956 Le Chalet Blvd, Boynton Beach Florida.. You won't be sorry. I did hear he is not taking new patients, but I would try anyway.

Thanks you guys. I tried looking him up under Paul and couldn't find him and was a bit perplexed, so that explains it. I'll give it a try.
