I know the market is very tough for teaching right now, so what are teachers doing in the mean time?

What other jobs are viable for unemployed teachers?

Good question...and when are they planning to lift the hiring freeze for external applicants???? Are all the 1400 laid off Broward teachers trying to get jobs in PBC? What are these laid off teachers doing to support their families?

Aren't the teacher's still working? Isn't school still in session? I thought the layoffs were for the 2011-2012 school year.

What I really meant is to ask what other jobs do teachers hold when they are laid off or they just can't find any employment? Do you go to the corporate world? substitute? tutor? wait tables? I don't know. I ask because I"m looking for a teaching job in FL, but wonder what else I could do in the mean time.

Hi, I am an out of state teacher (from Delaware/New Jersey) and I was just hired for an ESE teacher position in palm beach county. I was laid off in Delaware at the end of June 2010 and for a while I was a case manager/nanny in the Atlanta area. It stunk and I really missed teaching a lot. Florida, surprisingly, has more opportunities for special education than Georgia.

I know a lot of laid off teachers in the nanny profession.
