Hello. We are Miamians who are considering moving to WPB, and we have been researching many different areas. We came across Abacoa and drove up there to check it out. The thing is: I don't get it. It's beautiful, but I found it to be almost deserted. Can someone give me some insight to Abacoa as a community. Another question would be is it very expensive to live there?

Thank you.

I'm a resident of Abacoa and love it, but it's not for everybody. Part of the reason the Town Center area seems deserted is its location and design within the community. Some of the businesses there seem to be doing well (Rooney's, Jumby Bay, Starbucks), but many of the mom and pop shops come and go. Things will pick up during spring training, and the minor league games are great for the kids. The vacant movie theater is a killer, if it was still open there would be more kids and families down there.

As far as homes go, you can probably get a townhome starting in the low to mid 200's and a single family home from the low 300's and up. Really depends on the community and model.

We moved here last week from Naples and love it so far. There are always people walking their dogs and babies, children playing, people walking and biking. I agree that the town center could use a little more life but we have eaten at Jumby Bay, JJ MUggs and Rooneys and all were great. The great thing about this area is that you are so close to so many things, PGA Boulevard, great mall, grocery stores, etc. Nothing is more than a 10 minute drive which is nice.

We are in a single family home and renting. I hear the prices are great if you want to buy. We own a home in Naples that we did not want to lose our shirt on so decided to rent.

Good luck!

Check out Google Maps, I just recently found that you can view rentals and for sale homes on there. Type in Abacoa Jupiter in the search, and then go to button on the right side of the screen that says "More". Check the real estate box and listings for rental and for sale product pop up. You can refine your query on the left side of the screen....

Abacoa is a great place to live, but judging it by the Town Center will give you a false perspective because that has been it's downfall; However, the rentals and home sales have always been a success, ever since day 1 in 1998.
