Hi, my husband, me and our 2 daughters are currently in North Dakota. We moved here almost 3 years ago from Michigan. We are looking at moving out east. To be honest we miss trees and water. I know it may sound dumb but once you don't have trees around you really start to miss it. Plus there is nothing out here to do and the towns are over an hour apart.
With all that said, how are the gas jobs in west Virginia? I know I will love WV. I don't want to move out there if there is not much for jobs. Currently my husband does service work but would like to move to being on a drilling rig, no work over rigs.
We are not drillers moving in and tearing up the area, we are a family looking for a long term thing. ND is not a good fit for us. I understand out here we get paid a bit better because of the living conditions and pricing. We are fine with taking a pay cut just to be else where.when we go home to visit it is a 23 hr drive. From WV it would be 6 hrs.
I dont know where to start so any help would be appreciated !
Trickey, while I have heard stories of locals being hired to work on the gas rigs, it seems most of the companies hire experienced gas workers who tend to come from Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. It is sort of a specialized type of work, like coal mining. That said, there are service jobs available in some parts of our state. Morgantown and Martinsburg are growing areas, and I know they are still hiring people around here in Morgantown. Check out the employment section in the Sunday edition of the Dominion Post newspaper and see if there is anything that suits your husband. As you said, Morgantown is about 5 hours from Michigan.
