I have never had a ticket before and here I am trying to deal with one out of state. And after visiting this forum I feel like an idiot seeing as this is a very well known speed trap...ugh!
Anyway, I lost my uncle last week and had to pick up and drive with my children from North Carolina to Maryland for funeral services. Because of work and school obligations I drove up Saturday night and left for home very early Monday morning. My kids were actting up and pitching a huge fit and I saw the speed change and slowed down but then everyone needed to go to the bathroom...great. So we stop at a service station... my daughter who is 15 and mentally handicapped decided to pitch this huge fit inside the store so by the time i literally drag her out of the store im frazzled shes extremely irate. So i get everyone buckled in and i take off, completely forgetting about the speed change until i see blue lights.
So my question is can anyone recommend a traffic attorney in the area? And any tips on what I need to do? I have never had a ticket or anything, 0 points on my license.
You're right, of course. But that doesn't make it any easier
when the road on which a person gets a ticket is a four
lane highway with a posted speed limit of 50 out in the
middle of nowhere, and the road looks like the speed limit
should be 65. People have to slow 15 mph on a road where
it doesn't appear to warrant that kind of adjustment, and
to top it off, they aren't using discretion in enforcement.
They are nailing people for very little over the limit on
what is essentially an open road.
I know they have some traffic issues in Summersville,
but the way they go about things gives the whole state a
bad image in some ways. They need to be more reasonable
and selective in enforcement. Just my opinion.
The entire town of Summersville was bypassed when the highway improvements were made.
A legal resource was needed to provide funds for that city.
The speed trap is well known to thousands...most obey.
The others fund the town.
Summersville is a great Wv town....IMO they had no other choice to keep their city funded.
It is a fair trade...obey the sign or pay the fine.
David, it is a nice town and the scenery there is amazing. Nobody can claim they aren't warned about the speed trap. I agree with that. But, in a way it does seem a bit over the top.

That is why they make that decision and not you,
which makes life a little saver for us all.

Oh ... Wait just a moment there . ... Yes they do use discretion,
and they don't let you get by with 4-5 miles over the posted limit
as you would think as being fair.

The Audubon Highway and the Bonneville Salt Flats are an open road too,
but I doubt that you would get a ticket there.

One town with a reasonable speed reduction that you don't like,
and now you bad mouth . . and lump all of WV's other towns
into the same group of bad images to the whole world.

If you don't like the way they do things in Summersville drive around the town,
or may just bypass the whole state, if that will make you happy.
Just my opinion also ! ! !
