My husband, son and I are going to be moving to the Parkersburg area in the next month and we do not know much about the area. I was wondering if someone could help me out on some questions that I have.

- Is there a good pediatrician in Parkersburg/Vienna area?
- What is a good family doctor?
- How much snow on average do you all get in the winter?
- Any good daycares in the area?
- Are there any Christian churches in the area? We are currently going to a church of 850, any that big, any that are instrumentalists?

Thanks!

1) Dr. Richard Cain in Marietta took care of me for years. Looking back with what I know now as a pharmacist, I thought he prescribed really well and is a pretty good family doctor. There are plenty of good family physicians in the area. I don't practice in Parkersburg, so I have no idea what docs are the best. Honestly, just going to a pharmacy and asking which doctors seem the most competent is a good idea. We get a pretty good idea on how well they follow clinical guidelines based on their prescribing practices.

2) Depends on the year. Sometimes its just smaller storms that give you 1-4 inches several times a year. Back in (I think) '93 we got two storms that plopped down 15"+ twice in a two week period.

3) Not sure about daycares, sorry.

4) Mega churches in the area? Depends on what brand of Christian you are. I think the biggest Catholic congregation is St Margaret Mary on Dudley Ave. For protestant churches, I believe North Parkersburg Baptist is pretty big. They claim a congregation of 800 (http://www.northpbc.org/about - broken link).

Marietta wouldn't be the most convienent but getting advice from a pharmacist is a great idea. You have one to start.

One thing to remember. If it does snow, there is no school.

Bunch of day cares but it depends on the age of the kid on how easy it is to get a kid in. Sometimes seems a bit hard for infants. Not so for older. I've never heard a bad thing about any of them.

North P-burg Baptist is huge (for this area) and they may have day care also. They have (had) pre-school classes and I thought they had day care.
