I'd be surprised if the hospitals in Wheeling don't come into the fold as well. It's a natural, and there is already a strong University presence there.

I don't know, but do you think that it is a good idea to bundle all of these hospitals together under the same name?
What I mean is, does it make it more government involved or not?
I don't see a problem. What it does is reduce administrative costs (and we all know medical costs are way out of line) and give the local hospitals access to more specialists and the latest technology.

This consortium is a not for profit organization. You should be more worried about it being too corporately controlled, if anything.
I don't get why people fear the hell out of the government...but are perfectly fine with a small group of elite rich people running everything...you can vote for who runs the government...you don't get to vote for who the rich people are...

All so very very true
What I'm really concerned with is if the quality won't backfire because of the lack of real compition in healthcare now! I mean now that everybody is working for the same people, the hospitals have no need to improve the level of care, because what used to be their big rivial is now their partner.
Of course I'm by no stretch of the imagination an expert on any of this so I'll just say my 1 & 1/2 cents and shut up! LOL

Unfortunately, that same small group of rich folks dominates both major political parties and controls state and Federal governments as well. They keep the peons arguing among themselves about largely irrelevant crap, and focus on keeping all significant power in their hands while making sure the middle class foots the bill for everything. Corporations... Government, they are increasingly intertwined. Same goes for the largely bogus non-profit designation where the rich simply exchange inflated salaries for their relatives who run them for what would normally pass for "profits".
Anyway, back to the point... this particular merger can be viewed as a positive development in my opinion.
