I'm tired of reading these political threads, so will post something else.
Growing up in Clarksburg and now living in Parkersburg, I never heard of putting cole slaw on hot dogs. When you ordered a hot dog with everything that meant chili, mustard, and onions, and that's how we make them at home. The first time I ever heard of it, was when I stopped at a Dairy Queen in Summersville, asked for a hot dog with everything and they put cole slaw on it. I went ahead and finished it, but that was the last time I made that mistake. Now I specify what I want on it. It made about as much sense as these places I see in Pittsburgh that put french fries on sandwiches. Is this a common thing the more south you go in the state? It doesn't seem that common around here.
Not to get off track with the subject, but I remember the first time I went in a convenience store in Beckley, and I couldn't find the pepperoni rolls! I asked the clerk and she had no idea what they were. I think that has changed though over the years because they seem to be pretty much everywhere around the state now, but I'm not sure about the extreme southern parts of the state.
Here's the WV Hotdog Blog if you've never come across it. They even mention recent legislation requiring cole slaw to be an option at WV restaurants that serve hot dogs. Personally, I'm not a fan of cole slaw on a hotdog.

Notice the date on that article.
I was severely misled by a recommendation from that blog for a place in Morgantown called Haught Diggity Dogz. It was dirty, the bun wasn't heated, the wiener was puny, and the lady put the slaw on the dog like she was laying a line of cocaine--razor thin.
I'm originally from Putnam County, and I've always eaten slaw on my hot dogs.
I would have hoped it was a joke but you never know with some of the stupid things they try to legislate. Thanks for pointing out the April Fools date.
You can get them that way in southern Ohio also on your BQ sammich or on the side....GOOD STUFF!
