Hello, my wife and 2 kids are looking at the Parkersburg area for a job & wanted to know the good, the bad, and the ugly on the areas. It's semi-close to family, but I would love some information on what the job market is like for my wife; are the schools good; what about daycare; and how's the housing market? We'd most likely rent the first year if I get the job, but would look at buying if everything is good.

Overall we're looking at settling down and want to know if this is "family" community, or what.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead of time.

What areas of employment are you searching?

I am very prejudiced to Williamstown as the place to live in Wood County. Several houses available. Top notch schools with small enough enrollment (650 in grades 7-12) that students can be involved in as many activities as possible.

GREAT place to raise a family.

I'm not sure what sort of job your wife would be looking for. Schools are good. Housing is affordable. Crime rate is relatively low.

I live in Williamstown and our biggest concern is kids stealing your garden gnome and sticking him in someone elses yard.

Seems day care can be tight for infants but there doesn't seem to be any problem for older children.

I wrote a couple of posts on schools here, check my past posts, see if they help. I can also try to answer any specific questions you might have.
Good luck!
