I thought I had opened a thread on this but I couldn't find it. Anyways, does anyone know any current or future plans for 3G or 4G in the area. I have verizon and it really sucks having to connect to my wifi all the time or using the 1x when outside the home. I work in Hagerstown, md and its the same deal. Not sure why Verizon would leave out a metro area of 300,000 people, although they were supposed to jump from nothing to 4g in 2012, but I haven't heard anything.

Also I did switch to sprint for a week because I heard they used 3g in the eastern panhandle, they very well might in downtown martinsburg, but whatever they have sucks and I ended up switching back to verizon because at least my phone connection was good with verizon, never have had a dropped call. My coworker has AT&T and it seems to work good for him in hagerstown, as far as 3g connection, but I really don't want to switch again. I really like verizon because they always seem to have consistent service.

Anyone have any information and advice. What do you use?

Fyi, not a big fan of us cellular either, but they seem to have control over a lot of the towers. Also I don't live off the beaten path I live right off 81.

New Martinsburg-area Sheetz to include drive-through - herald-mail.com

It says in the article that Verizon Wireless owns a plot for a 4g tower. I have read several articles saying that the Martinsburg area is suppose to have 4g by the end of 2013. I thought Hagerstown just got 4g coverage?

I assumed that if there was a 4g network that you would be able to pick up a 3g signal, maybe I am wrong if they do have it Im not picking anything up on my verizon network. Is 4g backward compatible with a 3g phone to receive a weaker 3g signal?

I hope they get it in martinsburg!!!

The thing is I use my phone for EVERYTHING. Every one of my posts on this website has been via my cell, every bill I pay is through my phone, all surfing, social networking is done through my phone. I haven't turned my computer on in months. So me not having at least 3g is kind of like if you had to use dial up, when I am home I can at least use my wifi. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if everyone had this issue, but the fact is most of america has at least 3g many of which have moved on to 4g. We don't want to be left in the dark as usual.

I was just at the Verizon store in Frederick contemplating switching from Sprint and on the map they displayed, it showed that most of the areas around Charles Town were in 4g coverage. How accurate that is may be another story as it showed the bottom of Harpers Ferry having 4g when I know damn well you cant even get a signal down there. Sprint has 3g here for the most part, real slow at times, so I assume Verizon does too and probably much better service

I was just lookin at the coverage map and it doesn't make much sense, it shows 4g for most of the eastern panhandle. I am still not sure if you can get 3g on a 3g phone in a 4g network. I would spring for the 4g phone if I knew I would get 4g service. All I know is I have a 3g verizon phone and cannot connect to any 3g network in the area except for in winchester, virginia. Not sure about at&t but I had sprint for a week it said 3g but was only getting 1x speeds.

I just switched to Sprint from TMobile. Cheaper for the family of four and unlimited data as in totally unlimited. No 4G around Charles Town yet but get it in M'burg and Bethesda where I work. So far we are very happy.

Are you sure it is 4g and not 3g? Sprint has a very limited 4g market, mostly only in the lqrgest cities in america. It must work better in jefferson county, it sure doesn't work in my subdivision in inwood, although it does work right off 81. I am just going to hold off for verizon, I confirmed with verizon today that hagerstown, md does have 4g now. You can also get it in northern berkeley. The verizon rep also confirmed that you need a 4g phone to get any internet, a 3g phone cannot get a 3g connection off a 4g network unless they had it originally, which maryland never had 3g for verizon.
