This is getting interesting, and a little scary. It looks like a few states have already gotten the required 25,000 signatures to get an official response.

Every election year - some of the more extreme - whatever - vote to secede.

Why don't these people move to Iran. It sounds right up their alley.

-No gay rights or gay marriage.
-No separation between religion and state.
-No abortion.
-Lots of oil drilling.
-Nuclear bombs.

Seceding is a stupid idea.

Why would any of these "recipient" states want to cut themselves off of the Federal Money train? All of these places receive more money from the Federal government than the pay in taxes. Why stop

It's just the radical fringe you always have trying to get attention. There is a small group in Vermont that does the same thing every time a Republican is elected. They're nut cases, and you could find at least 25,000 nut cases in any state.

Well Big_Al hasn't been back, where could he be?

1. Working on the final new flag with his nifty crayon set
2. Out trying to get people to sign his petition at traffic lights.
3. Perhaps attending a rally in another state.
4. Or maybe they realized he was loose and now he has no access to a computer.

In all seriousness, it would literally cost trillions, if not more, to actually secede from the US. No US state could ever actually do it. The removal of federal jobs and need to establish what would be much costlier governmental services due to scale of size issues are insurmountable. Not to mention economic stability issues concerning issuing bonds, new currencies, paying off that state's share of the national debt before leaving, etc, etc.

This is so stupid, I'm actually embarrassed that people are discussing it with even a shred of seriousness.

There's enough room in Antartica - or better yet at the North Pole where the ice is melting - where all these exremists can share their unhappy lives together.

Personally, I wouldn't display the Stars & Bars. Many people consider it highly offensive.

I'll cut y'all a break since you weren't rebels but the flag pictured in Big Al's post was the battle flag not the Stars and Bars (two red and one white horizontal stripes with a circle of stars on a blue field). Here in VA we fly the latter from some buildings on Confederate Memorial Day with few complaints. Most folks have no idea what it is and probably assume it's a U.S. flag from the revolutionary era.

Kind of amusing that someone wanting to secede would cite something from the U.S. Constitution.
