What's considered "too liberal?", considering you elected a senator for decades who never met a government program he didn't like. How is Obama more liberal than Jay Rockefeller? Please enlighten me.
Rockefeller did not push for a socialist medicine program that will wreck havoc on Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans, forcing the cost of medical care up by thousands per year for many families and resulting in a lower level of care, similar to the rationed care system they have in place in Canada. Many people simply have not paid attention to the point where they realize the damage they have done to themselves with a vote for those policies. It will hit home soon enough starting in 2014. Millions of people shot themselves in the foot for a program that, in reality, only benefits 17% of our people.
The thousands of pages in this medical bill were not even fully understood by those who passed it. We would have been far better off as a country if we had simply agreed to give free Medicaid to the indigent and working poor.
So they're wary of Jay Rockefeller? He's as socially liberal as anyone in the senate.
Jay Rockefeller keeps a very low profile in West Virginia. Between plenty of campaign cash, a few key votes to publicize, and a general lack of viable opponents, he and Joe Manchin will grow old together.
Reading these posts gives me a little understanding on my "politics". I consider myself a Moderate.
I was born & raised in W.Va. & returned for a few years as an adult, but have not lived there now in over 40 years.
I vote for the person & not the party. My Mother's side of the family were Republicans & my Dad's side Democrats & I remember many discussions, but I do not remember either side getting mad because the others disagreed.
Now days everyone is right & anyone that disagrees are wrong.
Guess my roots are in W.Va......

But he did support and vote for the Affordable Health Care Act aka Obamacare. Wasn't he on the committee that worked it all out?

Obama is not as liberal as Rockefeller, but I'm sure you know that. Obama is a moderate.

You vote for someone based on their personality? The parties have deep, ideological differences and you vote on personality?
Truth is, WV votes for the candidate, not the party. If you want to really bewilder yourself, look at how WV voted in the 90s. Or look at how Hillary Clinton polled vs McCain in 2008 during the primaries. In fact, I'd wager that Hillary would win WV against damn near anyone right now. Those old school Democrats are loved in WV.
Keep in mind the WV fatalism at work. Nobody cares about people in WV. Republicans hate them because they are poor "leaches." Democrats hate them because they are "stupid, uneducated, racist rednecks." It's a wonder people in WV vote. Poor, white, and out of sight.
