According to the story, the Commonwealth of Virginia has plans to build a 13 mile road from the WV/VA border to I-81 near Strasburg VA. Having Virginia finally make and announce plans to link up to Corridor H is great news. For shipping purposes that would allow easier access to the Virginia Inland port and then on the port at Norfolk.
I think it does silkdashocker. If that route is opened up for the more truck transportation from the eastern ports and paired with the upgraded rail lines in the southern part of the state for the double stack train cars and intermodal facility in Wayne County, the state could take advantage of upgraded transportation uses.
Sounds like this highway will have a huge economical impact on WV. I hope they get funding to shoot for 2020 completion.
Actually, it is famously billed as a high to nowhere with no real economic impact expected. Building something which is not needed doesnt really produce results. I am sure a few service jobs will be created but they will be dwarfed by the cost of building and maintaining this road to nowhere.

It was only billed the highway to nowhere back when more funding was earmarked in 2009 because there weren't any plans to build out from the Virginia side. But now we see that they are planning to connect from I-81 to the WV state line.
Besides the advantages this gives for shipping, I think this will make the Mountains of WV an even more popular vacation destination.

No it was billed a highway to nowhere because it goes to nowhere WV. There is no proven benefits it is just a pork project. If you support it fine but dont pretend it is going to have any economic benefits.
The whole road is a highway to nowhere factoring in Virginia.

And to be fair, if you don't support the so called "highway to no where", then don't post negative uninformed stuff on the highway's economic potential. Just because you don't think it was a good idea, doesn't give you the right to bash other posters that think it is a good idea and economic investment.
