Anyone have the new complete, updated population totals for the MSA's and CSA's?

Cry_havoc, did you miss the part where it says the changes are based on data, not whims?

Quote:
The large majority of changes have taken place on the basis of decennial census data. However, Census Bureau data serve as the basis for intercensal updates in specified circumstances.

I don't think they are releasing the actual numbers to the media until 10 am tomorrow. They will be available to the general public on Thursday.

About time Elkins gets thrown in. However, I always thought that Randolph, Upshur, and Barbour counties should make up the CSA since many people from Buckhannon and Barbour County come to Elkins for work and services with Elkins being the principal city of the grouping.

As it is...

Randolph - 29,404 with 4% growth from 2000-2010

with Barbour 16,589 with 6.6% growth from 2000-2010
with Upshur 24,254 with 3.6% growth from 2000-2010

for a total 70,248 with averaged growth of 4.73% among all three counties.

Whatever data they choose to manipulate.

Did you miss the part where they said they could define the data however they want and there is NO consistency?

Yeah... that's a booming little area... and one of my favorite areas of West Virginia.

I totally disagree here. I believe they are as much based on arbitrary whims as anything else. There are far too many overlaps, underlaps, groupings based on political boundaries rather than reality, and so forth for them to yield anything close to accurate assessments. The ONLY places they hold any semblance to reality are those places in large states without large populations that have cities not in proximity with other cities. There are countless examples of this, and any area that is in the proximity of large cities but not included directly in their data has grossly misrepresented readings.

In addition, since they are conducted by the Government they are subject to political pressure and interference.

Well, if they're based on Census data, at some point you'll be able to access that and do your own calculations.
