Who said anything about not being detected? It is more fun when the fish sees you and swims away and you have to rely on your swimming skills and physique to kill it.

Once you get good you dont even need a knife anymore. Just your bare hands or your teeth.

This is only if you want to be healthy. It is a real workout.

Yea but very few people live in rural Putnam. Much of the population is in devolved areas and tend to have higher education.

Quick list of membership gyms in Putnam only:

Snap Fitness in Winfield, Generations Physical Therapy, Absolute Fitness, YMCA of Teays Valley, Slim Gym Ladies Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Isla Bonita Fitness Studio, Quantum Soccer/Sports Complex. And that's not all, these are just the ones off top of my head.

Plenty of places to swim in Mon. County. The river probably is not the best place.

Ohio County where Wheeling is is also one of the healthiest. There are quite a few gyms, bike trails, and parks in the area that people use. Once it hits 60 degrees or so soon there will be a lot of people out.

You do not swim in the Mon here. You swim in the Cheat.

That is very true. Ohio County has around 20 miles of fully developed and well maintained hiking/biking trails, much of it right along the Ohio River, and they are well used. Wheeling has a well educated population.

Actually there are a large number of fisherman that use spears through the ice here. There has also been a push to allow atlatl hunting as well.

It was in the single digits at night this weekend. Our scout troop was rough camping with hand made shelters (no tents) and Saturday day we rappeled and rigged up a zip line. Even in cold weather we're active as all get out.

One thing we noticed (actually my son noticed) when we moved out here. My son has a slight build. He has zero fat and was considered 'small' back home. Most of the boys back home in WV were heavier with more waist and height. Definately was the case in Bridgeport/Clarksburg. When he finished his first week in school in Montana he commented that he considers himself 'normal' here.

Showing my ignorance: what is "atlatl" hunting?

The best I could come up with is Siamese Atlantians, but I doubt that's correct.
